Tooth Extractions
At Port Kennedy Central Dental Care, we want you to have a healthy smile and keep all your natural teeth for as long as possible. We understand, however, that there are certain situations in which that may not be possible. If you or your child need to have a tooth extracted, rest assured that our experienced team will keep you comfortable.
Following your procedure, we’ll advise you on the proper aftercare. You’ll know how to take care of yourself so that you recover quickly and don’t experience any complications.
Why You Might Need a Tooth Extraction
Our teeth are meant to last a lifetime. Certain common situations can require an extraction. We may recommend doing so if your teeth have been affected in any of the following ways:
- Advanced gum disease
- Broken teeth
- A deep infection that can’t be addressed with a root canal treatment
- Crowded teeth
- Problems with your wisdom teeth
You may also need to have a tooth extracted before you can embark on other dental treatments such as dentures or orthodontics.
What to Expect
Two of our main areas of focus are on comfortable dentistry and affordable pricing. We know that these aspects are the key reasons that many people avoid getting the dental care they need. We want to remove these obstacles. You can rest assured that you will have minimised pain, if any, during your extraction. We will apply a numbing anaesthetic and have oral sedation available when needed.
After your tooth has been extracted, we will tell you exactly what to do in the hours and days afterwards so that you heal quickly.
Extraction Aftercare
We’ll tell you all the details of what to do. The general guidelines that you can follow include keeping the gauze in your mouth in place for the directed amount of time to allow a blood clot to form. Be sure not to rinse your mouth out, as this can disturb the clot.
Refrain from chewing on that side of your mouth and don’t consume hot or cold substances. For the rest of the day, plan to avoid physical activity. You also shouldn’t smoke or drink alcohol for 24 hours afterwards. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers as you need them.
Restore Your Beautiful Smile
After you have had an extraction, you may be interested in replacing your tooth. We can discuss options with you such as a dental bridge or dental implant depending on your needs. Contact us today to book a consultation for extractions Port Kennedy!
